In like a lion and out like a rabbit... We have been enjoying a very busy end of winter season here with our friends! Some of our favorite activities have included making felted "gnome pouches" for our valentines; life-size drawings/tracings (with body measurements) of each child; evergreens study; Ground Hog/Wood Chuck Story with movement (from Nature for the Very Young); animal tracks observations and activities; doll making; parts of a book- story sequence: beginning, middle and end, front cover, title page, back cover, how to turn pages; Stories: The Story of St. Patrick ; The Shepherd Boy by Kim Lewis; Story of the Root Children by Sibylle von Olfers; Woolbur; Music: A Painting Song (A Lovely Rainbow); Help Me Wind My Ball of Wool (Traditional); The Thread Follows The Needle. And of course, lots of imaginative play with dress up, "dancing shows" and puppetry!
The month of March finds us amidst a theme of Ireland, sheep, wool and rainbows. We have planned an upcoming spinning demonstration with a visit by friend, Kat Eldred of Why Knot Fibers on Thursday, March 27th. All are welcome to attend and invite a family member or friend! Details forthcoming. The children have made wool sheep and will be experimenting with dying yarn and Easter/Spring projects with felting and weaving on a loom.
Upcoming... indoor seed starting (soup day now becomes gardening/botany day); woodworking- rainbow stackers; Spring fingerplays- Rascally Rabits, Bluebird, Mama Bird, Have Your Heard? and puppetry.

The Shepherd's Sweet Lot
William Blake
How sweet is the shepherd's sweet lot!
From the morn to the evening he strays,
He shall follow his sheep all day,
And his tongue shall be filled with praise.
For he hears the lambs' innocent call,
And he hears the ewes' tender reply.
He is watchful while they are in peace,
For they know when the shepherd is nigh.
Lambs
Christina Rossetti
On the grassy banks,
Lambkins at their pranks,
Wooly sisters, wooly brothers,
Jumping off their feet,
While their wooly mothers,
Watch by them and bleat!
Note: Please pack rain boots, raincoats, rain pants, dry sets of clothing for your children as we embark upon this muddy and wet season.
Enjoy our Spring Recess!- no school Friday, March 28 - school resumes Monday, April 7
With much warmth and Springtime blessings to you,
Miss Dana and Janine
